I Will Support Mahama- Hannah Tetteh
May 3, 2017

Former Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Serwah Tetteh has revealed her willingness to support former President John Mahama if the latter decides to put himself up for election as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress for the 2020 general elections.
In an exclusive interview with Jesse Agyapong on the morning show of Accra based Radio XYZ on Tuesday, the former Awutu-Senya legislator disclosed she has never had presidential ambitions but will support whoever the party presents but was quick to add that, if John Mahama decides to contest, she was ready to offer her support to him.
In a response to a question of whether or not she has presidential ambitions, the former Awutu Senya West Member of Parliament, emphatically stated that she has absolutely no intention of running for President of this country as it is being rumoured.
“I’ve never had presidential ambitions. I have had the opportunity to work with two presidents at very close quarters. It is not an easy job. It is really challenging in terms of the physical energy that each one has to put into being a president, it is challenging in terms of the pressures that individuals put on the President himself to take one decision or the other and it is also challenging because he has to be able with all information available to him to take the decisions that ultimately should be in the best interest of Ghana,” she said.
She continued that broader consultations should be undertaken in the decision of who becomes a flagbearer in any political party.
“Given that a political organization like the NDC would be looking to contest an election on a particular platform, would want to put in place certain policies, projects and programmes for the betterment of the people of Ghana, I think that it is for within the party, consultation to take place and say this is the person that we think can take us there and based on those consultations, that person then becomes encouraged to put themselves up because the party has confidence in their leadership,” she said.
She eulogized ex-president Mahama for possessing the right mental attitude and the appropriate leadership qualities in effectively handling the office of the president. She downplayed rumours that she had presidential ambitions.
Hanna Tetteh’s endorsement of John Mahama’s candidature is the latest addition to the numerous calls and endorsements by the rank and file of the party ahead of the internal presidential primaries despite John Mahama’s silence on his future in the NDC.
The radio interview which was primarily about Ghana’s foreign policy saw Hanna excellently communicating some of the legacies of the erstwhile administration in the areas of foreign relations and diplomacy.
