2 Ghanaian Teams Announced As Finalists In Facebook’s Bots For Messenger Challenge

Facebook has announced the finalists for the Facebook Bots For Messenger Challenge which was launched in February 2017.

Over 1000 submissions were received across 64 countries in the Middle East and Africa, 60 finalists have been named, 30 from sub-Saharan Africa and another 30 from the Middle East and North Africa.

 

 

The 2 Ghanaian bots that made it are

1. Artista Bot – A bot that asks for your image and paints it using shapes, sort of like Prisma

2. Known Fact – A bot that sends you crucial facts, historical throwbacks and periodically gives you access to music, movie and word search, as well as games.

From Middle East & North Africa (total = 30 teams)

– Egypt – 15 teams

– Morocco – 4 teams

– UAE – 4 teams

– Jordan – 2 teams

– Tunisia – 1 team

– Palestine – 1 team

– Algeria – 1 team

– Lebanon – 1 team

– Saudi Arabia – 1 team

From Sub-saharan Africa (total = 30 teams)

– Kenya – 6 teams

– Nigeria – 4 teams

– Madagascar – 3 teams

– Senegal – 3 teams

– Uganda – 3 teams

– Ghana – 2 teams

– Cameroon – 2 teams

– Zimbabwe – 2 teams

– Ethiopia – 2 teams

– Benin – 1 team

– Tanzania – 1 team

– South Africa – 1 team

The 60 finalist teams will win one hour of Facebook mentorship, Gear VRs, mobile phones, and up to $40,000 in tools and services from FbStart.

Subsequently, in June 2017, 3 winners and 3 runner-up teams in both the Middle East & North Africa and in Sub-Saharan Africa will be announced and the winners will win $20,000 and 3 months of Facebook mentorship (an hour per month).
