Intense Pressure is mounting on Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Bawumia to pull strings in ensuring that Alfred Obeng Boateng, the embattled Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) keeps his job despite numerous calls for his interdiction at the back of the 10million corruption scandal .
It has emerged that, Alfred Obeng Boateng, a known Businessman and financier of the governing NPP is one of the financial pillars of the presidential bid of Vice President Dr Bawumia who is preparing to lead the NPP into the 2020 elections.
Prior to the 2016 general elections, Dr Bawumia and some other party leaders including Sammy Awuku received huge sums of money from Alfred Obeng Boateng.
Reliable sources in government confirm that his appointment as BOST MD was in fulfilment of a promise Dr Bawumia made to him. Dr Bawumia is believed to have received 100,000 dollars and a monthly undisclosed amount from him.
In the wake of the controversy over the BOST MD’s decision to award and underwrite a contract to his unlicensed company (Movipiinaa Energy), calls have heightened for his interdiction but it appears Dr Bawumia is determined to ensure that Alfred Obeng Boateng remains at post.
There are fears within the office of the Vice President that any attempt to sack the embattled CEO will mean an end to his financial support for Dr Bawumia.
