Hardly a week after your authoritative Ghanaian Lens reported that the Seat of Government, Flagstaff House had taken over the defense of the busted BOST boss, Mr. Alfred Obeng, the Akufo-Addo government has officially cleared him of any wrong-doing in the scandalous sell of five million litres of contaminated/adulterated fuel to a company that has links to himself under circumstances that smack of gross insider trading.
Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, who, on behalf of the President, Mr. Akufo-Addo, announced the clearing of the BOST boss to the media in Accra yesterday, said that investigations conducted by the BNI and National Security found no wrongdoing in the transaction.
According to Mr. Akufo-Addo’s Energy Minister, “The product contamination occurred on January 18, 2017 and the MD for BOST assumed office on January 23, 2017 and cannot be held responsible for it.”
Akufo-Addo’s Energy Minister further made the claim that fifteen (15) companies put in a bid to purchase the contaminated fuel and that Movenpinaa Energy’s offer was the highest hence the contaminated fuel was sold to them.
“Among the fifteen companies that expressed interest, Movenpinaa’s price was the highest. Its initial price was GHS 0.90 per litre as the highest followed by Nation Links Oil which quoted GHS 0.80 per litre. Despite these quotations, BOST pushed Movenpinaa to pay GHS1.30 per litre which is the highest BOST has ever sold contamination products. The highest that was sold under the previous administration headed by Kwame Awuah Darko was GHS 1.00 per litre,”the Minister stated.
Government’s clearing of the BOST boss does not come as a surprise to many watchers of the Ghanaian political landscape given the robust nature of the defense that Akufo-Addo’s Social Media Operatives operating from the Flagstaff House have mounted for the BOST boss.
The Flagstaff House Social Media team, led by Nana Hesse Ogyiri, Samuel Bryan Buabeng, and Krobea Kwabena Asante, operating from the sanctum of the seat of government, virtually invaded social media with lots of falsehood and misinformation aimed at creating an erroneous impression in the public mind that the BOST boss is rather a victim of a supposed cabal that wants him out of BOST because he is supposedly working against the interest of the cabal.
All over facebook, posts like “Alfred Obeng Is innocent” “Alfred Obeng is clean” “Alfred Obeng is a target of a cabal” “Alfred Obeng is God-sent” kept popping up almost every thirty minutes from members of the team operating from the Flagstaff House.
Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, also came under condemnation from the Flagstaff House team for constituting a committee to conduct an investigation into the whole brouhaha.
In a facebook post, Samuel Bryan Buabeng, one of the leaders of the team, insinuated that the Energy Minister was only pursuing an agenda aimed at furthering his personal ambition to “become a President at all cost”.
Speculations have been rife that the strenuous defense of the BOST boss from the Flagstaff House followed by the hasty move to clear him through a purported BNI/National Security report is just to prevent any credible investigation from being carried out into the whole saga particularly as the name of the President’s daughter, Edwina Akufo-Addo keeps popping up as the main beneficiary of the whole stinking deal.
Although Edwina Akufo-Addo’s name has so far not been sighted on any of the documents sighted by this paper in relation to this dirty fuel transaction, oil industry players keep pointing fingers in her direction as the main benefactor behind the deal.
