One of the fundamental human rights of every person in a democracy, Free Speech, was under attack yesterday when popular NDC serial caller, Appiah Stadium, was arrested on the orders of President Akufo-Addo.
Appiah Stadium is alleged to have said the President is a wee smoker in an audio he recorded which has gone viral on social media. Late yesterday morning, the serial caller was arrested at his residence in Kumasi, quickly handcuffed before being bundled into a police vehicle which immediately set for Accra.
Throughout the journey, he remained handcuffed till he arrived at the Police headquarters in Accra. Only then was the handcuffs removed. Fortunately for him, waiting to assist him defend himself was a team of NDC lawyers comprising Evans Amankwa, Edudzi Tamakloe, Elizabeth Agyare, Ali Dawud and Baba Jamal.
Also at the police station to solidarise with Appiah Stadium were Kwadwo Twum Boafo- the former Executive Secretary of the GFZB, Mustapha Abubakar- Former Deputy Chief Executive of MASLOC and Prince Derrick Adjei- a Former Deputy Chief Executive of YES.
Interestingly, on his arrival, the NDC serial caller was taken to the Forensic Financial Unit where six police officers interrogated him. His lawyers were told he had been arrested for insulting the President. However, interestingly, when it came to formally charging him, they charged him with “inciting riots”.
After his statement was taken, he was dragged before Tiwa Addo Danquah who said several times she was going to punish Appiah Stadium. After several hours, he was granted bail to report back to the police this morning at 10: 00 a.m
