The 2018 budget for the ministry for Special Initiatives headed by Mavis Hawa Koomson (MP) as approved by Ghana’s parliament amounts to Ghc 1.1 billion.
the expenditure breakdown of the budget includes an amount of Ghc 800,000 for the design and hosting of a website for the ministry, an amount of Ghc 10 million have also been approved for the purchase of five 4wheel cars which includes one for the minister and MP who justified the budget with the explanation that she does not have an official car.
But what seems to have caused public outrage is the website cost and a jaw dropping Ghc 2 million being the total cost for the preparation of the ministry’s budget alone.
The Ghanaian public are outraged at the way and manner the public purse is being perforated by President Akufo-Addo and his appointees. The public is already incensed by recent revelations about how their President was cheaply auctioned for $ 100,000 to expatriates doing business in Ghana.
An online poll currently running on myjoyonline.com has produced a damming verdict on Akufo-Addo’s ability and willingness to fight corruption, the poll has over 90% of respondents saying Akufo-Addo cannot fight the growing corruption in Ghana
